Club Outing - Shorncliffe Pier

Against all of my body's protestations I dragged myself out of bed at 4am this morning and headed down to Shorncliffe Pier. Why would I do such a thing when I could have stayed in my comfy warm bed? Well the Aspley Camera Club had our first club outing fro 2010 and it was a dawn shoot at the pier.

The weather wasn't the greatest. It rained on us a couple of times and we all had to grab our gear and run for cover. Despite the bad weather I think I got a couple of good shots. I'll find out later today when I process them.

Even if the photos don't turn out to be that great, I still had an enjoyable time sharing the experience (and breakfast) with some great friends. I am looking forward to moreof these little adventures throughout the year.

A New Look

Ok so I have finally found time to re-design this blog so it now looks a little more professional and pertains specifically to my photography. If I have time I may start another blog for personal thoughts on non-photography related matters but for now this is it.

I haven't been able to figure out how to link this blog and my redbubble site to my Facebook fanpage yet, I suspect it can't be done so for now the blog and redbubble to continue to be linked to my personal Facebook page. Not such a big issue at the moment but this could cause problems in the future when I grow the business and get more fans. I will keep looking for a solution.

Anyway I hope you like the new design and I hope to be posting more often.

March Photo Judging

I was dreading this months photography judging after last months appalling effort, and I wasn't too happy with one of my shots I had entered for the "Rust" theme. The Judge was John Lomas, a very well respected and talented photographer from Brisbane, so I was very nervous about having him judge my work.

The shot I was concerned about was "Rusty Barbed Wire" http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3402/3512851042_59b2941090_o.jpg

Well it turns out I had nothing to be worried about as this shot won an Honours, my top scoring shot of the night. Two other shots got Merits, both entered in the "Open" category.

"The Drip" http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2616/4233122838_981f1afc22_o.jpg

"King of the Aquarium" http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2692/4261730144_fba8a1a219_o.jpg

My other two shots received Acceptances.

"HMQS Gayundah" entered in the Rust theme http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2692/4261730144_fba8a1a219_o.jpg

"The Long Walk" entered in the Open category http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2690/4196852822_67f1be9cca_o.jpg

Next month's theme is Grunge and I have worked hard on three images for this as it is a style I haven't tried before. Hopefully I will do well but I guess I will just have to wait until next month to find out.

I was also surprised to find I won the QWeekend Magazine (a lift-out in the Courier Mail) weekly competition for Feb 27. The theme was Numbers, and the winning image was "XXII" http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3578/3558172295_95cafbaa8e_o.jpg I won a $100 voucher at Click on Print so now I can put together a book of my winning photographs from the 2009 competition year.

I have also been getting images ready for the "1st Heritage Toowoomba Royal Show National Exhibition of Photography 2010". I have never entered a compeition of this calibre before so I think this will a real test of how good my photography really is. I'm sure I'll post the results when they are announced, some time in April I think.

That's it from me. I'll be back when I have more news, photographic or otherwise.

January 2010 Photo judging

First judging night of the year tonight. The theme for this month is Flight. I'm not real confident with my submissions this month. I've moved up a grade this year and the judges are going to be a bit more harsh. Oh well, I'll know in a few hours.

End of Year Photography Competition

Lucky I promised to update this thing infrequently or elase I would be in real trouble.

Anyway just a quick entry to tell you all about my success at the End of Year Photography compeition for the Aspley Camera Club. I won a trophy for "Monochrome Image of the Year". My first year in the club and I get a trophy ... Yay for me.

Hello darkness my old friend

Of course that title only works if my blog was called darkness ... which it isn't. Although it is time for a change of name (the blog, not me).

I know it's been a few months since I have posted, and many things have happened. Too many to mention but I will just say that I am in a much better place for everything that has happened.

I hope to update the blog on a (semi) regular basis again now that I am interested in writing again. Maybe something constructive will come from this.

Until next I would like to leave you with this thought ...
